RightFax 20.2 EP2 system and installation requirements

RightFax 20.2 EP2 — Hardware, Software, and Installation Requirements

Purpose

Provide consolidated system requirements and core install steps for RightFax 20.2 EP2.

Applicability / Versions

RightFax 20.2 EP2 server, web apps, and clients. Mixed 16.x clients or servers interoperate with limited features.

Prerequisites

  • Windows Server 2016 or 2019 with current updates. IIS 10 enabled.

  • Service account for RightFax services: local admins group and “log on as a service.”

  • SQL Server 2016, or 2017 (Express, Standard, Enterprise) or SQL 2017 Express via setup.

  • Required components available via setup: MSMQ, .NET 4.7.2, VC++ runtimes, MDAC, Crystal Reports runtime, RF PostScript driver.

Steps

  1. Plan platform and storage

    • Baseline hardware: ≥3.0 GHz CPU, dual-CPU recommended; 4 GB RAM per CPU; 100 GB free disk for OS/app. Size fax storage separately at ~80 KB per page + ≥10 GB headroom.

  2. Prepare OS and roles

    • Apply Windows updates. Enable IIS 10 and confirm required Windows features.

  3. SQL strategy

    • Connect to existing SQL 2016/2017 or let setup install SQL 2017 Express; ensure DB permissions per guide.

  4. Install RightFax server

    • Run Setup.exe, select features, reserve ports (10520, 10521, 10522, 10062, 34001, 34987, 34988, 36363), and install prerequisites when prompted.

  5. Configure services and licensing

    • Assign service account, create/connect database, launch Licensing Utility, then apply image options (HR/encryption) as licensed.

  6. Install web applications (optional)

    • Configure IIS settings and SSO if desired; Web API must reside on the RightFax server.

  7. Client deployment

    • Install FaxUtil/EFM/print driver; align client version with 20.2 to retain full features.

Validation

  • Services start under the designated account; Web Admin reachable.

  • Database created or connected successfully; ports open for RPC/Remoting/DocTransport.

Operations Notes

  • Virtualization supported: Hyper-V, XenServer 6.2+, VMware ESX 3.0.1+/vSphere 4.0+/vMotion; also AWS and Azure. Fax boards require physical or remote DocTransport.

  • Cloud hosting options include Ingenium Private Cloud, Azure, AWS.

  • For Web Admin, run Remoting Service under a domain account.

Limits / Known Behaviors

  • Mixed 20.2 and 16.x client/server pairs work with reduced functionality; enforce minimum client version if required.

  • Antivirus may need exclusions for RightFax folders and executables.

Troubleshooting

  • Prereq failures during setup → Install/enable IIS 10, MSMQ, .NET 4.7.2, then rerun setup.

  • SQL connection errors → Verify supported SQL version and permissions; confirm driver and instance/port syntax.

  • Slow/failed FoIP or telephony → Validate SR140/board config and line quality; see Fax Board and Admin guides referenced by the install guide.

Discrepancies (if any)

  • Ingenium requirements sheet aligns to the OpenText 20.2 guide, adds clearer storage sizing and cloud-hosting notes; treat Ingenium as the newer authority.
