This article covers detailed instructions for installing and configuring the etherFAX driver to use with your RightFax server. etherFAX provides secure, reliable cloud-based faxing without the complexity of traditional telephony.
Before installation, confirm you have:
Administrator-level access to your RightFax server.
An active etherFAX account with:
Valid etherFAX Account ID and API Key.
Purchased etherFAX channels (RightFax channel licenses must match etherFAX channel count).
.NET Framework 4.7.2 or later installed.
Navigate to https://downloads.etherfax.net.
Choose RightFax from the available software list.
Download the latest etherFAX driver installer.
Copy the installer to your RightFax server.
Run the installer as an administrator.
Follow the installation prompts, accepting default options.
Important: Always select Brooktrout SR140 emulation mode during setup for optimal compatibility.
Configure the etherFAX driver before adding channels to RightFax.
From your Start menu, right-click etherFAX → etherFAX Configuration.
Select Run as Administrator.
Input your etherFAX Account ID and API Key.
Click Test Connection to verify connectivity.
Once successful, close the etherFAX Configuration tool.
Re-launch etherFAX Configuration (Run as Administrator).
Under the General tab:
Enter your required Caller ID as a 10-digit number (no spaces or dashes).
Example: 5035551234
Under the Channels tab:
Verify displayed etherFAX channels match your purchased channel count.
Click Apply, then OK, and close etherFAX Configuration.
Log into your etherFAX Client Portal.
Set the same 10-digit Caller ID number used above in your number management settings.
Configure channels in RightFax to align with your etherFAX setup:
Open RightFax Enterprise Fax Manager.
Navigate to Services → DocTransport Module.
Right-click and select Configure Service.
Add SR-140 channels, matching the etherFAX channel count.
Set the FaxID for each channel to match the 10-digit Caller ID set earlier.
Click OK to apply changes.
Ensure the settings take effect:
Open RightFax Service Control Manager.
Click Restart All to restart services.
Open Windows Services (services.msc):
Verify Dialogic service references "etherFAX".
Confirm service stopped and restarted with RightFax services.
After completing the above:
Open FaxUtil.
Click New Fax, enter recipient details, attach a document, and click Send.
Monitor FaxUtil to confirm successful delivery.
